Food Truck Madness Takes Over the Mile High City for Summer

Written by  Misty Lucero

Denver has steadily been becoming a mecca for the foodie for a number of years.  When I was a kid, there was little gourmet food to be found downtown; it was all steakhouses and good ole’ American restaurants.  That has changed by leaps and bounds and nowadays you can find just about any food you could possibly desire in the Mile High City.  Anything from Ethiopian to new twists on classic American favorites can be found here.  Gourmet now exists in all forms.

A new style of food that has taken the underground foodie scene by storm is the phenomena of Food Trucks.  Little by little, the trucks are grabbing on and you see more and more foods offered on wheels.  There’s Sweet Revenge Cupcakes, the Biscuit Bus, Cozy Bean Coffee, Crock Spot, The Steamin’ Demon and The Porker, just to name a few.  Most of the mobile eateries have websites or Twitter feeds that allow patrons to track where they’ll be headed to serve up their eats on any given day.  There are over 100 in Colorado alone!

Now that summer is here, Denver citizens can expect to see food truck festivals weekly throughout the city.

  • Civic Center Park invites you to enjoy live music and lunch in the park every Tuesday & Thursday, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., through September 29, with delicious food served by a convoy of Denver’s gourmet food trucks.  The park has been undergoing renovations to its Broadway terrace, which should be revealed in the coming week.  The sixth annual Outdoor Café program gets bigger and better each year, boasting more days and vendors than ever before.  And as a bonus, the program helps support Civic Center Park revitalization efforts through the nonprofit group, Civic Center Conservancy.
  • You can also attend food truck events by tracking the posts at Denver Street Food, a website dedicated to all foods mobile.  This is a huge site with writers who really knows their stuff when it comes to Denver’s food trucks.
  • And probably the best source for mobile food in Denver is the super awesomely named Justice League of Street Food, whose motto is “Saving Denver, one mobile meal at a time”.  They are a band of mobile street food vendors who have banded together for this cause.  They are very active in getting their convoy out in the city and will have their next event July 7.  More details to come on their Facebook page.
  • Another group of truckers throwing great Denver parties is Food Truck Renegades.  They’ll be having their all-truck showcase this Saturday, June 11 from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.  at the Corner of Colfax and Irving.  They have over 18 trucks participating so far and welcome any food truck who’d like to participate to sign up!

I, for one, have always been a total dork for food, and I am super excited to have all these mobile food events all around Denver this summer!  Cheers foodies!

We have just launched a new feature on our site called the Denver Street Food Guide. This guide features a live Twitter feed that aggregates the most recent tweets from participating food truck Twitter accounts on a single page, allowing users to see updates from many street food vendors in one place.
