The most unorganized restaurant I’ve ever been to also has the most unauthentic Thai cuisine I’ve ever tasted. On a busy Thursday evening, this place had one waiter, who also had to serve, host, and handle to-go orders. I felt extremely sorry for the guy as he was clearly panicked and isn’t the kind to be able to multi-task.
It took 5 minutes to be asked if we needed a table, 10 more minutes to get water, 15 more minutes to be asked what we’d like to order, and then 20 more minutes to receive our appetizer, two small egg rolls. The rolls were plunked down on the table without utensils or napkins. By the time the entrees arrived, we’d been there over an hour and were plainly annoyed, not to mention starving.
The panang curry I ordered had a thin, bland sauce and none of the rich peanut flavor or creamy, heavenly-scented coconut milk which I’ve become accustomed to at places like Swing Thai. The other dish we ordered, chicken pad prik was, according to the menu, served in a garlic brown sauce with basil. What we actually received tasted like something I might attempt at home with a bottle of Kikkoman. Not exactly what we had in mind.
The server clearly felt bad and knew we were dissatisfied; he dropped off a big coconut ice cream sundae to us about five minutes after the entrées arrived. While the ice cream was a nice gesture, it’s not enough to get me to go back. If you want authentic Thai food and good service, look somewhere other than Little Bangkok.
