Terrible food and terrible service pretty much sum up my experience at The Local. After enduring the joys of parking on Washington Park's tiny, unaccommodating streets, we arrive and seat ourselves at a table on the cramped outdoor patio of this divey hipster joint. We waited a little while to eventually be approached by a ditsy tart of a waitress who informed us she was going to bring us some water to start with. She returned after a bit, sans water, to ask us if we wanted anything to drink.
We each ordered 20oz lattes, but the glasses we received our drinks in could not even hold sixteen ounces, let alone twenty. The drinks were flavored with sparse amounts of syrup that tasted rather cheap. The coffee in of itself was decent, probably because it's brewed from Pablo's beans. On top of 20oz drinks being served in cups that don't even hold 16oz, half of each of our drinks was foam. I'm pretty sure a latte isn't supposed to be a bunch of foam.
After taking our orders, our subpar waitress returned a short while later to ask us again what we ordered because she couldn't remember. That might be a sign you need to write orders down sweetheart, as we heard you return to other tables over the same dilemma. We are eventually served our breakfast, one order of which is completely wrong. We had that issue corrected, but the food was absolutely terrible.
The side of potatoes we ordered was comped to make up for the bad experience we were having, but $2 is not enough to make up for a tool of a waitress and disgusting food. Extremely runny scrambled eggs, stale hash brown potatoes, and chorizo (Mexican sausage) that was ground up so finely it was just a puree of poorly-flavored meat and excessive grease.
It takes a lot to make me feel like a tip is entirely undeserved, but that is exactly how I felt after eating here. Don't waste your time or money on The Local when you will have a MUCH better breakfast experience at Cafe Europa nearby.
