Paris on the Platte

As a long time patron of Paris on the Platte, one would think I would undoubtedly recommend this well-known coffee house to someone. However, I'm on the fence. If it wasn't for my long standing relationship with this particular coffee shop, and my addiction to the Midnight Express, I would personally never go back and I probably wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Upon entering Paris on the Platte, you are met with about fourteen tables or so, which you have to be a contortionist to get around if it's busy (although last time I was in it looked as though tables were moved to a much easier-to-navigate pattern). There is local art on the walls, which is changed every month or two, and lots of stuff to look at. The interior design at Paris is pretty neat, with the checkerboard ceiling above the kitchen and registers, the simple and awesome looking track lights, and the big ol' coffee roaster (at least that's always what I've guessed it was) in the corner. There is WIFI, awesome music playing in the background, and a hipster around every corner.

The food at Paris has always been pretty decent, my favorite being the horseradish wrap. They also have bagels, and although it isn't on the menu last I checked, there is an awesome jalapeno cream cheese to top it with. The boards are great, with fruits, cheeses, and meats for those who like to have a variety. The drinks have always kept me coming. The above mentioned Midnight Express is a delicious little concoction of vanilla ice cream, espresso, and coffee grounds mixed right in. They also have house coffee, apple cider, tea of every variety and many different cold drinks as well. However, they have been out of banana or strawberry or both anytime I've ordered a smoothie.

What it boils down to for me though is service. The service at Paris has progressively gotten worse during the eight year span I have been going. It takes at least ten minutes to get a menu almost every time I go in. The waitresses I get have always needed an attitude check and the food generally takes some time to come out. The drinks come out, spilling over the edge and with no napkin to clean up the mess. If you order a water, it is as if you slapped the waitress in the face. I have never once been checked on to see how the food was or if I needed anything else, even on slow days.

As far as food and beverage goes, heck yeah - Paris has it all. By contrast, their service is the lowest of lows. In addition, parking can be a real pain in the neck, and the meter police are like over-zealous hall monitors.

I leave it up to you, Blendd Readers... Can you sacrifice service for some decent food and drink?
