Off the Vine is a much needed addition to my neck of the woods. Located in the South Englewood area, across from Swedish Medical Center, this small bistro is cute and full of charm. Patio tables line the outside of this corner spot and the interior is an inviting mish-mash of lacquered wooden table and chairs in purples, greens and yellows.
The food at The 9th Door is just overwhelmingly good. There’s so much to choose from and something for everyone. Spanish tapas have gained popularity in the U.S. in the last fifteen years or so. Meant to be shared, the point is to order several plates and pass small helpings around the table. When anyone asks me for a good recommendation for a date, I suggest 9th Door because the sharing gives you a feeling of closeness and the food and presentation itself gives you plenty to talk about.
Sushi Hai is located in a very popular area in the Denver Highlands, at 32rd and Lowell, right in the heart of the action. Despite trying to get in three times, I discovered that when a restaurant is this popular, third time isn’t necessarily a charm. Determined to give Hai a try, however, I made a fourth go at it and finally got a table. Even on Thursday night, the place was packed.
This weekend at TAG I had the most splendid meal I’ve had in a long time. It’s so refreshing to experience the cuisine of a chef with not only talent, but passion.
Denver has steadily been becoming a mecca for the foodie for a number of years. When I was a kid, there was little gourmet food to be found downtown; it was all steakhouses and good ole’ American restaurants. That has changed by leaps and bounds and nowadays you can find just about any food you could possibly desire in the Mile High City. Anything from Ethiopian to new twists on classic American favorites can be found here. Gourmet now exists in all forms.
A new style of food that has taken the underground foodie scene by storm is the phenomena of Food Trucks. Little by little, the trucks are grabbing on and you see more and more foods offered on wheels. There’s Sweet Revenge Cupcakes, the Biscuit Bus, Cozy Bean Coffee, Crock Spot, The Steamin’ Demon and The Porker, just to name a few. Most of the mobile eateries have websites or Twitter feeds that allow patrons to track where they’ll be headed to serve up their eats on any given day. There are over 100 in Colorado alone!
